Microsoft Solutions Framework
Lane Systems utilizes the Microsoft Solutions Framework(MSF) as software project management framework. The goal of the framework is visibility and traceability of the software project. MSF is a document
driven framework such that processes are assured to execute as there are document requirements for each phase.
The MSF Phases are (and dependent on requirements for project management):
Envisioning - this phase involves documenting the customer requirements from the business requirement to the technical requirement of the deliverable software.
Planning - the planning phase is where schedules, resources, policies, and expectations on the run of the project are discussed and properly documented. This includes the communications plan
that contains what is expected to be communicated to all stakeholders at all points of the project.
Design - the design phase is where the full functional specifications of the software is documented and requires customer sign-off. The functional specifications are then the source for the
technical specifications of the project so even if the deliverable software is not yet written, all expectations on how the UI looks like, the software behavior and workflows it handles, the database schema,
the expected code classes, software architecture, and other technical aspects are documented. Thsi phase also includes creating the test plan, a document that contains test cases and expected results, so all stakeholders are
aware of the business and technical cases that the deliverable software should meet.
Development - the development phase is where the actual coding based on the technical specifications are executed. Lane Systsems development team carefully implements the technical specifications with coding conventions, white box testing, and regression testing are being done.
This phase also includes the development of all user, and administration manual if applicable, documentation for educating end-users on the user of the deliverable software.
GO Live Preparation - in this phase, the customer is expected to run the documented test cases, also called User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and check if the software has met the agreed features and functionalities. In this phase, the deliverable software is then tested for usability, performance, and stability, and
makes sure that the software is optimally written and performs well on production.
Go Live - at this phase, implementation activities are properly documented and are sources for knowledgebase as lessons learned in implementing the software. Lane Systsems provides the support services for the customer in going live with the deliverable software.
Project Certification - in this phase, Lane Systems provides the documentation on how each requirement is met by the functional and technical specifications of the software. Also included are recommendations for enhancements or other factors for continuing the services.
